For better use and better management. The UNOFFICIAL Website of Toronto's Outdoor Skating Rinks
Last night at Monarch Park there were 9 of us. It was a good turnout despite the cold. It was 5 of us regulars, and 4 newbies.
When we arrived at 7:55, the Zomboni was finished, men were still on the ice but the staff had them off at 8pm in time for the women's shinny to start.
We played from 8 until about 9:20 at which time men were waiting inside the change area to get onto the ice. The staff made it clear to them that they could use the ice as long as no women were on the ice and if any women came they would all have to get off the ice.
It worked out perfectly and all sides were happy, the staff are doing a great job at this rink. During the time we were playing, a staff was also present either on the ice or just outside the rink.
Hidden away at the end of a cul de sac is a perfect gem of a rink - Prince of Wales 1 Third St. in Etobicoke.
A clean rink house and ice to die for. Imagine playing shinny under the open sky AND with a view of the lake.
Another great place to play is Westway Rink 175 The Westway. A little far for downtowners but beautiful ice in an open field. The rink operator was very friendly, knowledgeable about his rinks and proud of the ice. Unfortunately both rinks only had one solitary guy wishing for more players to join the game. Both rinks had parking lots.So much ice, so little time to play.
Withrow had 11 of us on Thursday. Was a great game. Pretty high skill level with 2 beginners. The staff were amazing there. Got all guys off at 6. Then told us when it was 8... And the guys came on after we were off!!
