Strengths: Attached to a community centre, this double pad was rebuilt last year with a pond-style pleasure side and a big window in the changeroom. Lots of open ice time, plus new snack bar and skate rental, and more family events.

Areas for improvement: With a cozier feel than most, it lost ‘working facilities’ points because there’s cement around the edge of the pleasure pad, its players’ boxes are boarded up, the gate to the hockey pad won’t close, and its zamboni has no garage.

Next steps: Fix what’s broken, and give shelter to the zamboni so it can keep the pleasure pad ice thinner. Expand the snack bar and skate rental. Follow the shinny schedule better, and adapt it to fit who’s around at specific times.
