The Gas Station Islanders' FAMILY SKATE'N'SHINNY ROCK'N'ROLL DAY

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 24 2:00pm-6:00pm

Drop in shinny skills competitions: 3:00pm-5:30pm on the hockey side!

This is a family-friendly program in partnership with the City of Toronto. The Gas Station Islanders are a member of the Good Times Hockey League of the Arts (www.goodtimes.exclaimhockey.ca). From organizer Kevin Warsucks: "The Gas Station Islanders hockey club would like invite absolutely everybody to come out for an afternoon of shinny and hockey skills competitions for all ages." There'll be soup and cider at the campfire, live rink-side bands (featuring Don Kerr, Tim Vesley and Dylan Hudecki), a raffle, and drop-in shinny drills and skills competitions on the hockey pad from 3:00pm-5:30pm, first for youth, then for adults. The event is also a fundraiser for Right2Play (www.right2play.org) - an organization that organizes sport-oriented programs for children in areas affected by war, poverty and disease. If you want to pitch in, the suggested donation is $5.

EVENTS IN FEBRUARY AT WALLACE RINK

Sunday February 17th, 1- 5pm: SNOW PAINTING DAY AND CAMPFIRE PARTY From rink coordinator Sarah Cormier: “Wallace rink staff arrived to work after the most recent snowfall to find a ten foot high pile of snow right on top of the weekly Sunday campfire site - and after they had shoveled it out and cleared all the benches the day before! They were able to dig out one of the picnic tables but another picnic table and a couple of benches, plus some of the precious few donated mats, remain deep under the snow. But until Rink Supervisor Brian Green can get a backhoe in to help clean up the mess: let's make the best of it!

If the weather's right (that means no snowstorms or high winds, so cross your fingers!) there'll be free hot chocolate and hot dogs over the campfire (next to the where the regular one is), and we'll be making snow sculptures and painting the snow. And as long as that 10 foot high snow bank stays put, we'll see if we can mold it into a pyramid and paint it up!” EVERYONE WELCOME
