RINK REPORT CARD: 2007-2008

Mel Lastman Square Rink

B+

5100 Yonge St

416-395-7584

Strengths: Near to major malls, steps from the subway and the 401, the civic centre and office towers this rink is an uptown jewel. After school the rink has supervision and music plays from speakers above the rink.

Areas for improvement: Better communication is a must. This rink was scheduled to open on Dec.2, was advertised as such and did not in fact open until a week or two later. Our reports found the ice was great sometimes and bad sometimes, unrelated to weather. There were also complaints about dull lighting.

Next steps: : Better communication. This destination rink needs a skate rental program. Also there ought to be special events to attract more skaters. For instance, campfires with hot chocolate and marshmallows on weekends.
