14 City outdoor rinks were scheduled to open Nov. 21. Only Nathan Philips Rink and Dufferin Rink opened that weekend.
On Wednesday Nov.25, the hockey half of Rennie Rink opened but the cooling for the pleasure-skating side was still turned off. The hockey side of West Mall Rink opened the same day, but the cooling for the pleasure-skating side is turned off. Hodgson Rink opened on Saturday November 28, both sides, with good ice. Mel Lastman Rink opened on the Nov.28 weekend.
On December 1, Regent South Rink and Kew Rink opened. Sunnydale Rink opened on Dec.3.

On Saturday Dec.5, 2009, all city outdoor rinks were scheduled to be open.
As of 1 pm, reports that have come in regarding rinks that are NOT open or only HALF open: Albert Campbell Square (repairs being done); Prince of Wales (insufficient flooding); Otter Creek (repairs being done); Martingrove; Trinity (thin ice); Rosedale (thin ice); Ramsden (thin ice, hockey side); Harry Gairey/Scadding (thin ice, hockey side); Ryerson (closed because construction nearby); College Park (broken); Campbell (small patch of cement); Glen Long (thin ice); Irving Chapley (thin ice), Ledbury (thin ice), Withrow (thin ice), High Park (electrical problem), Rennie (hockey side only), West Mall (hockey side only), North Toronto Rink (thin ice).
On Sunday December 6, 2009, most outdoor rinks opened for the season. Of the 20 rinks we listed as closed on Saturday 1 pm, only Dieppe, Rosedale, Valleyfield, Martingrove, Glen Long, Irving Chapley, Ledbury, Sir Adam Beck, and Queensway were still closed because of thin ice (or were been reported to us , by rink users, as closed). Ryerson and College Park Rink are closed indefinitely, and Albert Campbell Square and Otter Creek are closed for repairs.
Are the outdoor rinks open or closed on New Year's Day? It's hard to say, since there is conflicting information. What we know for sure is that ALL the outdoor ice surfaces will be OPEN. Some rinks will also have washroom and changeroom access, and skate lending: Nathan Phillips Square, Harbourfront's Natrel Rink, Dufferin, Wallace, and Campbell rinks.
