RINK REPORT CARD: 2007-2008

Dufferin

A

875 Dufferin St.

416-392-0913

Strengths: A well-used rink with an excellent location across from the Dufferin Mall and near the subway, with a full snack bar, skate rental program, plus community campfires and lots of open pleasure skating and shinny time.

Areas for improvement: A very skater friendly rink, it dips in ‘welcoming atmosphere’ because it’s often too crowded to find a seat and staff struggle to keep it clean. Good ice overall, but in March it starts melting on sunny afternoons, forcing the rink to close.

Next steps: Use Dufferin as a trial to shift the season back two weeks, since the compressors have an easier time freezing ice when the sun is weakest (Nov. to Feb.). Spruce up other rinks to relieve the overcrowding.
