Subject: rink staff allocation -- FOI? Date: Thu, 18 Dec 2008 15:08:30 -0500 From: Jutta Mason <[email protected]> To: Brenda Patterson <[email protected]>

Hello Brenda,

Last week I sent a number of questions to Paul Ronan, including some fairly urgent questions about rink staffing allocations between districts. I cc'd your office and I have attached it again.

I have had no response, but before I request this information from Corporate Access, I want to make sure I've dotted all my i's. Does Mr.Ronan intend to answer my questions, and if so, when?

An example of urgency: yesterday morning, after 2-3 inches of snow overnight, rink maintenance supervisor told the rink program staff that they would have to wait to get Wallace Rink snow cleared off until the "majors" had been done. Apparently Wallace Rink is considered a "minor" rink and it was not cleared for skating until 7.30 pm. last night.

Wallace Rink is a double pad rink that was rebuilt two years ago at a cost of $1.1 million. It has a skate-lending service, extensive daytime school visits, and weekly family programs, as well as being a very intensively-used youth shimmy hockey destination. It is not "minor." 48 schoolchildren tried to push the snow off the rinks at 1 pm, but this didn't fix the lack of maintenance.

Etobicoke-district rinks only a short distance away opened between 10.30a.m. and 1 pm. after the snow.

We need to get to the bottom of this, and rink staff allocation are a very important piece in the puzzle.
