Strengths: Wonderful setting, one of the best designed pleasure-skating rinks in the city, attractive rink house. Near a lot of new condos, some of them with children who need outdoor exercise. Across the street a major Toronto hotel
Areas for improvement: Very low usage. A bit of an orphan for ice maintenance, for that reason. Because the rink is so often almost empty, it could also become a drug area.
Next steps: : negotiate with the Delta Chelsea Hotel to see if they’d like to kick in some money to set up a skate loan program. Set up a campfire area for hot chocolate, and a minimal snack area, maybe in cooperation with nearby restaurant, and weekly family-skate events. Flyer the rink to schools, businesses
